Dog Friendly Beaches: Orange County Edition

Many California dogs love the sand and the surf.  Now that the busy summer season is coming to an end and kids are back at school, it’s a great time to take your dog to the beach.

Where are the dog-friendly beaches in Orange County?

  1. Laguna Beach is very dog friendly: during the off -season (September 10 -June 15), dogs are allowed on the beach all day long.  In the summer, they are allowed before 9am and after 6pm, and they must always be on a leash.  These rules apply for all the beaches of the City of Laguna Beach, but not for South Laguna.

Hungry?  The beautiful Rooftop Lounge at the Casa del Camino Hotel puts you and your pup                                   face-to-face (nose-to-nose) with the stunning California coastline.

  • If you’re looking for an early-morning run or an after dinner stroll with your pup, the beaches of Newport Beach allow on-leash dogs, all year round, before 10am and after 4:30pm.

Hungry?  The Lighthouse Bayview Café at Marina Park has beautiful harbor views and dog-                                   friendly patios.

  • In Orange County, the Best-in-Show of dog-friendly beaches has to be Huntington Beach.  Huntington Dog Beach has its own Preservation Society, dedicated to keeping a safe space for doggie beach play.  The beach is open daily 10am to 5pm, and while technically a City Ordinance requires dogs to be leashed, in practice, only off-leash aggressive dogs have been cited.  Here, your well-behaved pup will have a chance to play freely in the rolling waves.

Hungry?  The nearby Park Bench Café has a doggie menu offering chicken, hot dogs and                                        scrambled eggs.

In California, we are lucky that our dogs can accompany us through many parts of our daily lives. If you’re interested in providing for your pup’s future care, consider a Pet Trust
